Project 6: First Progress Review

  1. Hey Rileigh, before reading your proposals for this assignment I was able to look at your pictures and figure out what is taking place. So good job with being able to tell your story without the use of words. You did an excellent job with the first four photos. It seems very clear that you are full of emotions. The way that you arranged the photos allows the viewers to see your emotions unfold.

As for the next four photos, I would consider maybe eliminating a few in your final display. The reason I recommend this is because it starts getting repetitive. I think that one or two of those photos is enough to get your point across. Maybe try substituting a few of them with other methods. Such as, tearing the pictures apart, burning them, and so on.

Also I read in your proposal that you mentioned art being used as a form of expressing emotions. I think you are on to something there. Art is a wonderful way to put strong emotions to work. I also think that is it very therapeutic. Ignoring emotions will only cause them to bottle up. Good luck with the rest of this assignment and continue expressing and feeling your emotions - it will help with healing!

  2. Hi Rileigh, I like the way you captured the first image, there is a light and shadow effect, the trees in the background frame the image efficiently without being distracting (blur), capturing your eyes and your emotion tells the story that you have been hurt, and your eye works as a great and clear focal point. The second one shows a lot of emotion and a good angle, and i also like the off center. I think the third image is good but with the emotion, if i were to see the forehead lines more, which shows frustration and thought, it would have been great. I like how the forth image has some light shining through the back which gives a "light at the end of a storm" hope vibe a focal point of your scream, this was my favorite out of all of them! The imperfection of the chipped nail polish on the 5th image, i think that was good, even the background being blurry shows that it is the past and that you are letting go. I think the other 3 images could show a bit more of a chaos like papers sprawled across the floor or a messy room or messy belongings. The photobooth pictures are good subjects but i think you may have more things you could use and you could use them to your advantage. You did a really great job and hope you get through this :)
