  1. I like both of these images. On the first one, there are so many focal plains that it makes it especially interesting visually. I can clearly see the texture of the post to the left, the chipped paint on the railing, the shadows on the steps, the vegetation, serpentine bench, and the water, shore, and hills beyond. The contrasts in color and shading are also quite lively. The photo offers a lot to look at, and draws my gaze around and through nicely. If I were to offer one suggestion, it would be to eliminate the sliver of background showing to the left of the pillar.

I like the second image even more. The texture on the boulders in the foreground is so vivid, as are the (palm?) leaves just beyond. These elements are nicely in focus, and although the focus softens a bit as the elements get further away, they are still clear enough to know exactly what I’m looking at. I love the light/dark, shadow/light, monochrome/bright green dichotomies. The depth of the scene is visually inviting. The only thing I might suggest would be to reframe so that the nearest light post is not in the image. I find it just a bit distracting in what is otherwise such a natural scene.

  2. Good comments Julie!
Nice images Rileigh! I agree with everything Julie commented on.
There are some areas that could be sharper. You could play with the actual plane of focus a bit - moving it forward.
And, raise your ISO in order to raise your aperture even higher.
